Why remove hidden file metadata?

What is EXIF data and why does it matter?

Every photo taken on a phone or camera embeds EXIF metadata — GPS coordinates, device model, and timestamps — directly into the file. This data travels silently with your photo wherever you share it, often revealing your exact location to anyone who knows how to look.

How do I remove metadata without uploading my file anywhere?

Blindfold uses Web Workers, a browser technology that runs code in an isolated thread inside your own device. Your file is read, scanned, and cleaned entirely in your browser's memory — never transmitted to any server. When you close the tab, nothing remains. That means no upload, no account, and no copy of your file sitting on someone else's disk.

Can I remove metadata from a PDF, Word or Excel file before emailing it?

Yes. Office documents and PDFs quietly store the author name, company, editing history and the software used to create them — which is how documents often reveal more than the sender intended. Blindfold Pro strips metadata from PDF, DOCX, PPTX and XLSX files, and can clean up to 50 files at once, returning them as a single ZIP.

Does removing metadata make an AI image undetectable as AI?

No — and be wary of any tool that claims otherwise. Images from ChatGPT, Midjourney and DALL·E carry C2PA tags and XMP metadata naming the model and often the exact prompt used, and Blindfold removes those for Pro users. But some providers now also embed invisible watermarks such as SynthID directly into the pixels themselves, which survive metadata stripping, re-saving and screenshots. Blindfold cleans metadata, not pixels.
